Our Story

How it all started...

Hillcrest Baptist Church began with a vision from the Ten Mile Baptist Church in Lonsdale, Arkansas, to plant a New Testament church in the North Metro Atlanta area. In 1990, through the efforts of like-minded churches in the American Baptist Association, with a heart for people who needed to hear the gospel, and a love for Jesus, our founding Pastor, Paul W. Vance, and his wife Susan, along with their young son Josh, moved to Cherokee County to establish Hillcrest mission. The goal and plan was simple, yet Biblical—invade the culture and build an autonomous church that would inspire the community around it for the honor and glory of God. The mission experienced amazing growth, tremendous blessings, and far-reaching influence from its first location in the Vance home in Woodstock to its current location on Woodstock Road in Acworth. The church grew spiritually and in numbers; in 1998 it was officially organized as Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Expanding the vision...

We will continue to be Christ-Centered, to understand the authority of God’s Word, to understand that Jesus Christ is the center of the church, and to understand the importance of prayer. Our focus will be to grow Disciples of Jesus Christ through a commitment to God’s word, small group meetings (Sunday School, At-Home Bible Studies, etc.), and reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ through personal conversations. Last but certainly not least, we will continue to encourage one another by building unity through relationships and meeting people where they are.

Where we are headed...

At Hillcrest Baptist Church Acworth, we believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation and that a personal relationship with Him can transform lives. We are a community of believers who are committed to sharing the love of Christ and His message of hope with the Oak Grove area and beyond. Our goal is to create an environment where people can encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, and serve others. We offer a variety of discipleship ministries, including children's programs, youth groups, small groups, and Sunday school classes, to help believers deepen their understanding of God's Word and apply it to their daily lives. We invite you to join us for worship, connect with us through our discipleship programs, and partner with us in our mission to reach the world with the love of Christ.
